ABOUT BLAKE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

A Message from the Head of the School
Hello,

As a young child, I dreamt of becoming a teacher. I would gather my dolls and neighborhood friends for "classtime" in our family's barn. We would spend hours writing on sheets of slate, collecting acorns and walnuts for math manipulatives, work in our family's garden, playing hide and seek in the corn fields, and holding book studies with my "Little House on the Prairie" chapter books. It was definitely a simpler time but it was my desire as an adult to continue sharing that type of simple life, based on a child lead education.  As parents, my husband and I were searching for a school that held some of these principles nearly 20 years ago.  We were blessed to find Blake Christian Academy, where both of our children attended, and learned to "love to learn". Not only did they receive an active and experiential education rooted in Biblical truth, they also felt safe, secure and loved by all. This is where I felt called to learn more about the Montessori pedagogy.

As the Director of Blake Christian Academy, it is a privilege and honor to introduce you to our school. We know that searching for a school can be stressful, but finding the right one can also be rewarding for your family. Our mission at BCA is to provide a Bible-rich environment that has a quality developmental and educational curriculum that will challenge and encourage children to achieve their fullest potential. We desire and are committed to assisting parents by giving each child individual fundamental learning opportunities on which children can build a successful future.

Blake Christian Academy is an accredited "School of Excellence" through ILCS & FLOCS. As an accredited school, we are striving for continuous improvement. This is a rigorous process, but so worth it for our students, our families and our school. My greatest initiative is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment to provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each scholar to the best of our ability. Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role to encourage our children to become active learners. It is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire the skills to become productive citizens in a vastly changing society.

As a parent and now blessed to be the director of the school, I am committed to taking whatever steps necessary to provide an exceptional school, based on the educational methods pioneered by Dr. Maria Montessori and the Word of God. We desire to establish a close partnership between home and school, academic accountability and an innovative program that will lead scholars to develop extraordinary levels of personal responsibility, independence, and self-confidence. I invite you to visit us here at BCA and see for yourself the beauty that lies within. We look forward to partnering with you in nurturing the maturation of all your child's God-given talents and abilities.

In HIS Service,

Christie R. Locklin

Our Philosophy

"The child is both the hope and a promise for mankind."
-Dr. Maria Montessori

Blake Christian Academy is a Montessori-based Christian school. Scientific research has proven that children learn by doing. Montessori education is based on the child's developmental needs for freedom within limits; it is a carefully prepared environment which guarantees exposure to materials and experience.

We have taken this Montessori philosophy and incorporated it into an individualized developmentally hands-on learning for our preschool and elementary programs.
